“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
― Maya Angelou
Whether we admit it or not, we aspire to become better than we were yesterday and are inspired by those we see progressing in life, this is the revolving cycle of a person who's determined to maintain and substain a healthy lifestyle and we all take what we are inspired by and turn it into our own success stories.
My fitness journey was not always an easy one. My husband and I decided it was time to start a family in 2006. At the age of 24, I was able to bounce back from the pregnancy with ease of walking around my neighborhood and utilizing an elliptical machine I purchased a few years back. By 26,
I was blessed with my second child and then shortly had another child by 27. After my third child was born, I was 60lbs overweight from having two children less than a year apart and wanted to do something about my physical shape.
I committed to hiring a personal trainer and a nutritionist and within 6 months, I was in the best shape of my life. I acquired the knowledge to know what to put into my body , as growing up in a Hawaiian and Asian influenced home, most of the meals I was accustomed to enjoying were full of unhealthy carbs and fat and I was a heavy coffee drinker because my energy levels were low from trying to manage three children and household responsibilities, all while running two businesses. At all times, i was required to be both superwoman and Wonder Woman with no days off. My lifestyle required me to be strong and healthy in all areas of my life and this why i chose to hire a trainer to guide me and show me the correct way to workout. My nutritionist suggested I start a change in my diet to only consume foods that were nutrient dense. Hand in hand, my trainer put me through some tough workouts, assisting me with gaining endurance and strength while my nutritionist made a shopping list for me bi weekly. The combination of endurance training and strength training sped my metabolism up and with proper nutrition, I finally had the toned body I wished for.
Being healthy is part of a long and happy life. Fitness is a lifestyle. All in all, in order to stay healthy, keep fit and continue to see the essence of glowing skin, a fit, toned body and substantial mental and emotional focus, one must change the way they see food: as fuel. What we put into our bodies determines how we feel from the inside out.
My mission is motivate others. I am not an expert on nutrition or fitness and exercise but I do know what has worked for me and hope to share what I have learned and continue to learn with others so that we all can create a positive and healthy fit family!
